Camco to Help Develop Tariffs for Renewable Energy in Zimbabwe

Published on 23rd October 2013

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) are now developing renewable energy feed in tariffs (Refits); a policy structure that makes it compulsory for energy companies responsible for operating the national grid to purchase energy from renewable energy sources.

The Refits are designed to encourage greater private sector participation in power generation from renewable energy technologies, including;

  • Solar power
  • Small scale hydroelectric plants
  • Biomass
  • Biogas

The aim of the new tariffs is to fill the acute energy production gap which is adversely affecting critical sectors of the economy.

Camco Clean Energy are currently being consulted on the development of Refits for Zimbabwe's electricity supply industry.
