Kangra Aviation's EU ETS Plans

In February 2009 the European Union Directive 2008/101/EC was approved, allowing for the inclusion of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the Aviation sector in the European Union Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) from 2012.

Camco Clean Energy in South Africa assisted Kangra Group (Pty) Ltd, a private South African aviation company, who operate a single Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express aircraft, to comply with these regulations.

Kangra Group (Pty) Ltd contracted Camco Clean Energy in October 2009 to assist with the drafting and submission of the requisite documents in line with the EU Aviation Directive.

Camco Clean Energy carried out the following three project components:

  1. The calculation of their average GHG emissions for 2004, 2005 and 2006 to provide a baseline
  2. A GHG Emissions Monitoring Plan based on fuel consumption
  3. A benchmarking Plan based on tonne.kilometre data

Camco Clean Energy successfully completed and submitted the annual emissions monitoring and benchmarking plans to the Environment Agency, the competent authority for the UK, to which Kangra Group (Pty) Ltd reports. Both plans were approved by the Environment Agency in January 2010. Camco Clean Energy are currently assisting Kangra Group (Pty) Ltd with the completion, verification and submission of both their EU ETS reports for the 2010 Monitoring period.
