Rural Electrification Project in Tanzania Successfully Registered as a CDM Project

4 MW hydro power station to supply 14 villages

Camco Clean Energy’s Mwenge Hydroelectric plant has been successfully registered as a CDM project.

The 4MW hydropower project is owned by the Mufindi Tea Company and connects 14 villages, providing rural electricity and new job opportunities across the Tanzanian south-western highlands. The hydropower station generates electricity for the tea factory, with what’s left over being sold to the TANESCO power grid. This hydropower project was a part of eight flagship rural electrification projects implemented under the arrangements of the Rural Energy Agency and Fund.

Camco Clean Energy was hired by the Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) to develop the CDM pieces of the Mwenge Hydropower Project in 2008.
